Course Highlight

PHA 6432 Fundamentals of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

This is a core required course that serves as an overview on the basics of physicochemical properties of drugs, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and drug development stages.

  • Concepts learned are central to drug-target interactions to determine feasibility of substance to move forward in pre-clinical drug development, optimization of structure to pharmacophore for improvement of pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties.
  • This is a foundation course that aims to provide an introduction to the principles of Medicinal chemistry, including an understanding of drug structure-activity relationships, prediction of the physico-chemical properties of a drug, basic knowledge of the major pathways of drug metabolism, and factors that can contribute to drug-drug interactions.
  • Fundamentals of Pharmaceutical Chemistry provides students with a foundation in drug development processes and introduces the concepts that will be utilized in future classes.
